Pastoral Care at St John’s is . . . our caring response to the life needs of the students
Year 8 students receive a special welcome into the College community on their first day. On this occasion they meet the Year 12 students and are introduced to their ‘buddy’.
Buddies are senior students who, through a variety of activities during the year, form lasting and positive relationships with the Year 8s by providing them with friendship, support and encouragement.
Also, on their first day of school the Year 8 students meet their PC teacher. Students remain in daily contact with this teacher for Years 8, 9 and 10. For parents, this teacher provides a point of contact for issues or concerns.
All Year 8 students are members of a Junior PC group. This group combines students from Years 8, 9 and 10 and provides an opportunity for interaction between students of different ages and year levels. In addition, all members of the PC group belong to the same Sporting House.
In Year 11 students are allocated a Senior PC group. A specific teacher is appointed to this PC group, to guide the students through their two years of senior schooling.
Pastoral Coordinators take overall responsibility for the welfare of students in a particular Year Group. They provide another point of contact for parents when issues or concerns arise.
